Vincenzo Sospiri’s Forli based racing team will run Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo cars on both sides of the world this season, confirming their participation in the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS and the Italian GT Sprint and Endurance Championships.
Denmark’s Frederik Schandorff continues in the Asian Championship, where he was a front runner in the Pro-Am title chase last year and will be partnered in the Silver Cup by Malaysia’s Afiq Yazid who graduates from Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Yazid won the Asian Super Trofeo Championship in 2018. The Asian programme is supported by Kumar Prabakaran, himself a Super Trofeo racer and long-time Lamborghini aficionado.
Schandorff will also race a VSR Lamborghini in the Italian GT Sprint Championship. He will share the car with Dutch racer Danny Kroes. The pair have a strong history with the marque from Sant’Agata – Kroes took the 2019 European Super Trofeo title in his debut season and Schandorff won last season’s World Final.
The team will run a second car in the Italian GT Sprint Championship for Tuomas Tujula from Finland and Japan’s Yuki Nemoto – both graduates from VSR’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo programme. Tujula will also compete in the Italian GT Endurance Championship along side Kroes. The drivers for the teams second entry in the Endurance Championship will be confirmed shortly.
Sospiri: I’m very happy to confirm this important programme for my team and we are all looking forward to the challenge of running cars on two continents with the invaluable support of Kumar Prabakaran, Giorgio Sanna and the Lamborghini Squadra Corse family. We have a strong driver line-up in both Championships and I’m particularly proud that drivers like Schandorff, Tujula and Nemoto have chosen to continue with my team and we will all do our best to help them continue to forge successful GT careers.
Sanna: We are proud to support the progress of young drivers such as Schandorff and Kroes who, along with Yazid, have won in Lamborghini Super Trofeo and distinguished themselves in our Young Driver programmes. This year they can count on the support of a very professional team led by the experienced figure of Vincenzo Sospiri.
Schandorff: I can’t describe how it feels to have the chance to drive another year with this fantastic team. I’m looking forward to 2020 and am more ready than ever to go for the title with VSR and my new team-mates. I can’t thank the team, Lamborghini Squadra Corse, and of course my sponsors – PR Electronics – enough for this opportunity.
Kroes: I’m very happy to join VSR and to race the 63 Lamborghini. I can’t wait for the season to start and I’m ready to give the maximum possible. I am really grateful to Lamborghini Squadra Corse, VSR and my sponsors for giving me this opportunity.
