TWO OVERALL WINS AND TWO AM PODIUMS FOR THE VSR CREWS AT BARCELONA

European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship, Barcelona - Spain

Levet and Putera unbeatable in Spain - Double podium for Randazzo and Tribaudini

Barcelona hosted the penultimate round of the European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship this weekend. In the number 6 VSR Pro Huracan Paul Levet returned to partner Adam Putera whilst the 66 Am entry was once more in the hands of Championship leaders Piero Randazzo and Stephane Tribaudini.

Levet and Randazzo were on track in Q1 and Levet put the VSR Lamborghini on the second row, setting the third fastest time, with Randazzo fourth fastest in Am. A cracking start from Levet saw him jump up to second behind Strignano as Randazzo held position and started a battle with Lewandowski and Ciglia for the final Am podium place. A Safety Car on lap five for Bortolato’s spin into the barrier halted racing until five minutes before the pit window. On lap eleven the first cars stopped for their mandatory driver change and Randazzo bought in the 66 car for Tribaudini. Strignano pitted from the lead on lap fourteen leaving Levet out front before he too entered pit-lane and Putera jumped into the 6 car. When the pit window closed Putera was in the lead of the race, holding a slender two second advantage over Ruffini. Tribaudini was up to second in Am when on lap seventeen the Safety Car came out again to recover Fraboni from the gravel. Racing resumed with ten minutes left of the race and Putera hung on to the lead in a nail-biting finale, taking the chequered flag just two tenths ahead of Strignano. Tribaudini got caught up in the mid-field melee and lost a spot to Lewandowski, finishing third in class.

Tribaudini was the star of qualifying for Sunday’s race. His best lap earned him a spot on the front row as well as the Am class pole. Putera lined up on row four despite losing his best lap to a track limits infringement. At the start Tribaudini held second as Putera avoided a first corner crash to run fourth. Ten minutes into the race the top four were covered by less than two seconds but pulling away from the rest of the field. On lap nine the Safety Car came out for another Bortolato incident and the oil he left on track caused the leader Strignano to run wide. Tribaudini took over the lead with Putera in third. A delayed pit window opened whilst the Safety Car was still on track and the whole field pitted at once. Randazzo jumped in the leading car and had Fraboni behind him closely followed by Levet in the sister VSR car. Racing resumed with seventeen minutes left on the clock. Randazzo fended off Fraboni at the restart as Levet took advantage of their duel to move into the lead. Randazzo then had to deal with all the Pro drivers battling around him. With ten minutes to go he was running thirteenth and fighting hard with Lemeret and Ciglia for the Am class lead. Lemeret found a way past but Randazzo held off Ciglia, who then spun on the final lap, to take second in class. Out front Levet was under pressure from Dimitrov as the penultimate lap started but had everything under control and took the chequered flag first to complete a fine weekend for himself, Putera and the whole VSR team.

The Championship will conclude at the beginning of November with a final double-header at Misano. Putera is tied with Geraci and Knopp at the top of the Pro standings, Levet lies second and Randazzo and Tribaudini are leading the Am class by a slender margin of two points.
