Double Spa podium for Cristovao and Levet

The European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship reached the halfway point of the season with a double-header at a sweltering Spa-Francorchamps circuit in support of the Crowdstrike 24 Hours. Taking on the challenge of one of the world’s most difficult circuits were Fin Green and Euan Hankey in the Pro number 6 Lamborghini and Miguel Cristovao and Paul Levet in the 66 Pro-Am entry.

Levet took the Pro-Am pole for Friday’s race, missing out on the overall pole by just 0.002 seconds. He nevertheless lined up on the first row of the grid. There was disappointment for Fin Green who was forced to pull out of the event after a hefty crash at the exit of Eau Rouge in qualifying. At the start a technical issue dropped Levet down to twenty-sixth but by lap two he was back with the top runners, battling with Knopp for fifteenth and was the fastest man on track. When the pit window opened on lap eight Levet had hauled the 6 into the top ten and was placed fifth in Pro-Am. Levet pitted at the end of the window and Cristovao took over for the run to the flag. He entered the race eighth overall and fourth in class. On lap thirteen a short Full Course Yellow froze racing for several minutes and the track went green again with nine minutes to go. After less than a lap the Safety Car was called on track whilst several cars were recovered from the gravel. Racing didn’t resume and Cristovao’s fourth in class on track became a podium when the track limits penalties for other cars were added to the classification.

Cristovao started Saturday’s race from row nine, fifth in the Pro-Am class. At the start Cristovao got ahead of Formanek to take fourth in class before being passed in turn by Abkhazava. Cristovao held on to fifteenth for six laps before Formanek managed to move ahead once more. On lap nine the pit window opened and Cristovao boxed from seventeenth for Levet. When the pit window closed Levet was up to twelfth and battling for fourth in Pro-Am with Pretorius. On lap twelve the Safety Car came out whilst several crashed cars were recovered. Racing resumed with just seven minutes left on the clock. Levet was quick to gain a Pro-Am place, passing Oh for fourth. A lap later he passed Pretorious to take the final class podium place. A lap later he was second in Pro-Am having passed Ruffini but had a fast-recovering Leitch right behind him. At the final corner a touch from Leitch helped him move ahead but Levet ran wide around the outside and took the chequered flag just two tenths ahead to claim second in class and finish fifth overall.
