VSR CONFIRMS DRIVERS FOR ITALIAN SUPER GT TITLE DEFENCE

VSR confirms drivers for Italian Super GT title defence

11th April 2017

A dominant performance from VSR in the 2016 Italian Super GT Championship saw Nicolas Costa take the title after winning six of the twelve races he entered and taking a further three podium finishes. The team racked up a total of seven victories and nine podiums and took six different drivers to victory lane. Defending their title in 2017 will be an international line-up of young drivers from four different countries.

JiaTong Liang returns to the Championship after a successful debut in 2016. The Chinese driver, who also competes in the European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship, will share his Huracan with Tuomas Tujula from Finland. Tujula makes the switch to GT racing after finishing 3rd in the Spanish FIA Formula 4 Championship in his first season out of karts.

The second VSR Lamborghini will be driven by Italian Riccardo Cazzaniga and Felipe Ortiz from Brazil. For both drivers this will be their first experience of racing powerful GT cars. Cazzaniga's previous experience includes Formula Renault 2.0 and EuroFormula Open Formula 3 whilst Ortiz raced Formula 3 in Brazil after finishing runner-up in the 2014 South-American Formula 4 Championship.

Vincenzo Sospiri: For three of our four drivers this will be their first experience in GT racing but they've shown good pace in testing and I'm confident they will repeat the success we've had with drivers like Costa, Nemoto, Cozzolino and Michimi who all came straight to us from single-seaters.

Felipe Ortiz: I'm very excited to make my debut in Europe driving GT cars and to be part of one of the best teams in Europe, led by Vincenzo with all his experience as a driver and team manager. The tests we've done together were very good, the team works very well and is very professional so I'm sure we are going to have a great season and fight for the title.

The Italian GT Championship starts at Imola at the end of April.
